Read early. Read often. Celebrate March Reading Month!

By Tracy Trace, Publisher & Editor Macaroni Kid Fenton March 4, 2020

Reading with my children has always been an activity that we not only enjoy, but prioritize.  I love the stories that transport us to other places or unlikely situations.  And with my littlest, we sign ASL along with the pictures we recognize.  It is not only great bonding time, but it is also setting them up for future successes.

Did You Know...

"Babies and toddlers who are read to often will have heard as many as 30 million more words than children who aren't read to."  This is according to Read early. Read often.  It's a countrywide effort to encourage adults to read everyday and everywhere with infants and toddlers.  Argentine Early Childhood Center in Linden has adopted these same efforts and I am proud to help them spread the word!  When I met with their Early Childhood Coordinator Denice Westervelt, she was very emphatic about parents reading with their children.  She is discouraged by the lack of families interacting in public, missing those ideal teaching moments as they are too focused on the tech in their hands.

I applaud her ambition to influence and inspire, as I too can't emphasize enough the importance of not only carving out time to read, but also taking advantage of those little teachable moments.  I implore you to remember ... these moments with our little ones are fleeting.  Take advantage of this precious time we have with our kiddos -- running errands, around the house -- and of course, find time to read with them!  Find more information on the  Read early. Read often.  movement below, as well as some other helpful articles I have compiled!
